Protestele izbucnite în Minneapolis, ca răspuns la uciderea de către poliție a unui afro-american suspectat că a folosit bani falși, s-au extins în ultimele zile în mai multe state din SUA. Intensitatea protestelor au determinat autoritățile să decreteze stare de asediu în Washington. Peste 5.000 de soldați ai Gărzii Naționale au fost desfășurați în 15 state.
Președintele Trump a promis „să stopeze violența colectivă” şi a denunțat agitațiile „stângiștilor radicali”, în special mişcarea radicală „antifa”, pe care dorește s-o includă pe lista organizațiilor teroriste.
Candidatul democrat la Casa Albă Joe Biden a condamnat la rândul său, duminică, violențele: „Manifestarea împotriva unei asemenea brutalități (polițiste) este un drept şi o necesitate (…). Incendierea orașelor şi distrugerea gratuită nu este”, a declarat acesta. Fostul președinte, Barack Obama, a condamnat la rândul său atitudinea manifestanților.
Potrivit CNN, proteste de solidaritate au avut loc și în Anglia, Germania, Danemarca, Italia, Noua Zeelandă, Canada, Polonia, Australia, Siria, Mexic, Irlanda etc.
